Belgrade (Serbia): India’s Antim Panghal, who reached the semi-finals of the World Wrestling Championship women’s 53kg event following upsetting the reigning world champion, failed to qualify for the final.

Indian medal hopeful Panghal defeated world champion Olivia Dominique Parrish of the US 3-2 in the first match. Trailing 0-2, the 19-year-old staged a spectacular comeback to win the match. Panghal’s entry into the quarters was also marked by technical superiority over Poland’s Ruksana Marta Sasina.

She defeated Russia’s Natalia Malysheva in the quarters and reached the semi-finals, but then lost to Belarus’ Vanessa Kaladzinska (4-5). Antim is also aiming for Olympic qualification heading into Thursday’s bronze medal match.
