Antwerp mayor Bart De Wever assigns 27 young people to residence on New Year’s Eve

The individuals concerned are young Antwerpers between the ages of 13 and 30.

“The house arrest is in place from December 31 at 5:00 p.m. until January 1 at 8:00 a.m.”, confirmed the spokesperson for Bart De Wever. “The police will keep a close watch. Who will be intercepted in the public space, may be arrested administratively and risks a fine of 350 euros.”

“Individuals who are under house arrest are known to our services for fireworks offences, acts of vandalism and arson,” according to the spokesperson. “In various cases, they have already disturbed the order during New Year’s Eve in the past, or have committed misdeeds during recent World Cup matches,” he explains once more in the Flemish press.
