This is a tough blow for Apple. The brand with the apple logo is no longer among the top 5 smartphone manufacturers in China. According to IDC, iPhone exports to the Chinese market declined by 3.1% in the last quarter compared to the previous year, while Android smartphones saw their sales jump by 11% over the same period.
Other Chinese market watchers are making similar observations: Canalys describes a 3.9% drop in iPhone shipments to China, while Counterpoint Research reports a 5.7% drop. These figures come at a bad time, as Apple is due to present its third-quarter results next week.
