TikTok is deepening its integration with Apple Music, testing features that could fundamentally change how users discover and consume music within the popular short-form video app. The collaboration, currently in beta, introduces the ability to stream full songs directly through TikTok – a feature previously unavailable – and a “Listening Party” function reminiscent of now-defunct social music platforms. This move signals a significant step towards enhancing the music experience on TikTok and bolstering Apple Music’s reach to a younger demographic.
The core of this partnership revolves around two key features. The “Play Full Song” option allows TikTok users with an active Apple Music subscription to listen to complete tracks without leaving the app. What we have is powered by Apple’s MusicKit framework, which facilitates the integration of Apple Music services into third-party applications. A “From Apple Music” label clearly identifies the source of the music, and Apple Music retains responsibility for royalty payments and licensing agreements with rights holders, ensuring artists are compensated for their perform. The second feature, “Listening Party,” aims to recreate a shared musical experience, allowing groups of users to stream music simultaneously within TikTok.
Currently in beta testing, the “Play Full Song” feature addresses a long-standing limitation of TikTok, where users typically encountered snippets of songs. According to 9to5Mac, this integration streamlines music discovery, enabling users to immediately begin listening to full tracks they encounter on the platform. This is a notable shift, as TikTok previously relied on users switching to dedicated streaming services to access complete songs. The “Listening Party” feature, described as similar to the early 2010s platform Turntable.fm, offers a social dimension to music consumption, fostering a sense of community around shared listening experiences.
This isn’t the first instance of collaboration between Apple Music and TikTok. In 2023, TikTok introduced a feature allowing users to save songs discovered within the app directly to their Apple Music libraries. The following year, Apple Music added functionality to share songs from its platform to TikTok. These integrations demonstrate a growing synergy between the two companies, leveraging each other’s strengths to enhance the user experience. TikTok reported in December that its “Add to Music App” tool had been used to save over 3 billion tracks to various streaming services, including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and others, since its launch in 2023/2024, generating “billions more streams” according to Music Business Worldwide.
TikTok’s Influence on Music Discovery
TikTok’s impact on the music industry is undeniable. Last year, TikTok released its second annual Music Impact Report, conducted with Luminate, revealing that 84% of songs reaching the Billboard Global 200 chart in 2025 first gained traction on TikTok. An additional 12% went viral on TikTok after charting, highlighting the platform’s power to amplify existing hits. Only 4% of tracks on the chart didn’t experience a viral moment on TikTok, underscoring the platform’s dominance in music discovery.
Apple Music’s Strategic Move
For Apple Music, this partnership represents a strategic effort to reach TikTok’s predominantly younger audience, many of whom may not currently subscribe to traditional music streaming services. Apple has been actively seeking ways to expand its music ecosystem beyond its own app, as evidenced by its August partnership with TuneIn to launch six live radio stations, marking the first time Apple Music’s 24/7 radio programming has been available outside its native environment. However, Apple Music faces increasing competition from Spotify, which currently holds a larger share of the music streaming market. According to
