iPhone 14 and iPhone ‌SE Set to Disappear From EU ‌Apple Stores

Apple will soon remove some of its iPhone models⁤ from sale in the European Union. The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 ⁢Plus,⁢ and iPhone SE (3rd generation) will no longer be available in Apple ⁤Stores⁢ across the EUS ⁢27 member states from December 28th.

This move‌ comes as‍ a‌ result of⁤ the EU’s ⁣2022 legislation‍ requiring all phones and certain ⁤other‌ electronic devices‌ sold in the bloc to have USB-C charging ports by the end of 2024. Apple had previously resisted this ⁤change, but released ⁤the iPhone 15 with a⁢ USB-C ⁢port in 2023, and gradually transitioned its iPads to USB-C as well.

According to a report‍ from French website iGeneration, other retailers might ⁣potentially be able to ⁣continue ⁤selling ‍these iPhone models until their existing⁤ stock runs out.

Switzerland‍ and northern Ireland Also Affected

Switzerland and Northern ‌Ireland will also see the removal of these iPhone models from sale. Switzerland, even though not part of the EU, aligns with ‍many EU laws, and Northern Ireland,‍ despite being part of the UK, has specific regulations to maintain an open border‌ with the Republic of Ireland.

The removal⁤ of these older iPhone‍ models from EU⁣ Apple Stores comes⁤ as a surprise to some, as initial discussions⁢ surrounding the EU directive were unclear on whether it would apply to‌ all⁢ existing Lightning connector iPhones or only new ‍models.

Customers interested in purchasing these models should act quickly, as time is running out ‌to secure one from an Apple Store within the affected⁣ regions.

**Interviewer:** That’s quite a few popular models. What’s driving this ‍decision?

**Sarah:** The EU’s 2022 legislation requiring ⁤all phones ‍sold⁤ in the‌ bloc to have USB-C charging ports by the end of 2024 is the key factor. [[1](https://www.igen.fr/iphone/2024/12/apple-va-arreter-la-vente-des-iphone-se-et-iphone-14-dans-lunion-europeenne-147523)]Apple had initially resisted this change, but the iPhone 15, released this year, comes equipped with‍ a USB-C port, as do their newer iPad models.

**Interviewer:** It truly seems logical then for Apple to discontinue ⁢older models with Lightning connectors rather than adapt them to the new standard.

**Sarah:** Exactly. We’d anticipated this might happen eventually, but the timing is a bit surprising as there had been some uncertainty about whether the directive applied to existing models or just new releases.

**Interviewer:**‍ You mentioned ‌physical Apple‌ stores. Can customers still ⁣find these ⁤iPhones elsewhere?

**Sarah:** It’s possible other retailers might continue selling these models‍ until their existing stock⁢ runs out. ⁣[[1](https://www.igen.fr/iphone/2024/12/apple-va-arreter-la-vente-des-iphone-se-et-iphone-14-dans-lunion-europeenne-147523)]

**Interviewer:** What about Switzerland and Northern Ireland?

**Sarah:** interestingly, they’re also affected. Switzerland, while not an EU member, aligns with many EU regulations. And ‍Northern Ireland, ⁣despite being part of the UK, has unique regulations‍ to⁣ maintain an ⁢open border‍ with the Republic of Ireland.

**Interviewer**

: Thanks for shedding light on this sarah.Definitely an⁢ interesting development for Apple and consumers alike.

**Sarah:**

My pleasure!
