A Barcelona court sentenced former world number one Arantxa Sanchez Vicario to two years’ probation and her ex-husband Josep Santacana to three years and three months in prison for conspiring to evade debt payments. EFE reports this.

Sánchez Vicario and Santacana were convicted of decapitalizing their properties in order to evade payment of a debt to the Bank of Luxembourg for a loan of 5.2 million euros to pay a fine of 5.2 million dollars for tax evasion.

In addition to a fine of 5,400 euros in the case of Sánchez Vicario and 7,650 euros in the case of Santacana, the court decision ordered them to pay the Bank of Luxembourg 6.6 million euros of outstanding debt.

During the trial, Sanchez Vicario made a deal with the prosecutor’s office to reduce her sentence in exchange for confessing to committing a crime, provided that she did not repeat this for two years and paid the established compensation.

Let us remember that Sanchez Vicario is a six-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments and a four-time Olympic medalist (twice in singles).
