The versatility of Kairoo’s operations is a key strength. Currently, the team utilizes DJI T50 drones – an intermediate model – and recently added a second unit. They are planning to incorporate the DJI T100, the largest drone in the market, to further expand their capabilities. This allows them to adapt quickly to the diverse needs of their clients and varying field conditions.
While the initial cost of aerial application with drones can be double that of traditional ground-based methods, Comba argues that the economic equation balances out due to increased efficiency and indirect savings. “What the drone allows you to do is not trample the crop or the soil, and that’s already a saving,” Comba explained, highlighting the benefit of preserving soil health and minimizing crop damage. One significant advantage Kairoo offers is the ability to operate in conditions where conventional machinery struggles. Recent heavy rainfall in the region created muddy fields, hindering ground-based equipment. But, Kairoo was able to continue applications immediately after the rain, providing a crucial time advantage for farmers. This responsiveness is a direct result of the drone technology’s adaptability.
Beyond timeliness, Kairoo’s methods also contribute to a reduction in chemical usage. By working with highly concentrated active ingredients – reducing application volumes from 70 liters per hectare with terrestrial methods to just 10-15 liters with drones – the company achieves effective treatment with a smaller environmental footprint. This aligns with a growing industry focus on sustainable agricultural practices.
Kairoo is also investing in the future of the industry through workforce development. The company plans to launch an internal training program this winter, dubbed the “Escuelita” (little school) of drone pilots. This initiative aims to not only provide technical training but also equip pilots with the problem-solving skills and repair knowledge necessary to maintain operational efficiency in the field. The goal is to cultivate a team of skilled professionals who uphold Kairoo’s standards of quality and traceability.
The company’s innovative approach has garnered recognition from Córdoba Innovar, which selected Kairoo for its FFF program – a startup accelerator providing financial and technical support for scaling businesses. This support will be instrumental in expanding Kairoo’s reach across Argentina.
