Asunción, Paraguay – Ten-year-old Anita Romero of Corrientes, Argentina, has captured a bronze medal at the South American U11 and U13 Table Tennis Championships, marking a significant achievement for the rising star. Romero, representing the Corrientes Regata Club, demonstrated impressive skill and determination throughout the tournament, which concluded recently in the Paraguayan capital.
The young athlete’s success follows her selection to the Argentine National Team in late 2025, recognizing her exceptional performance within the country. This year has already been a busy one for Romero, with participation in the WTT Youth Contender in Buenos Aires serving as valuable preparation for the international competition. Romero’s medal came in the U11 women’s doubles category, partnering with Zoe Hilarion from Santa Cruz. The Argentine duo navigated a challenging bracket, beginning with a 3-1 victory over Bolivia. They continued their strong showing with a 3-1 win against Venezuela in the quarterfinals, securing their place in the semifinals. They fell to the Peruvian pair of Kcombt-Paredes, who went on to claim the gold medal with a 3-0 victory.
While the doubles event proved most successful, Romero likewise competed in the U11 women’s singles and mixed doubles. In singles, she faced a tough Group 9, securing a win against Paraguayan Ibáñez before encountering defeats against Kcombt-Paredes and Ecuadorian Ortega. In mixed doubles, teaming up with Enzo Fernández, they were narrowly defeated 3-2 by the Paraguayan duo of Brizuela-Vargas in the opening round.
The Argentine team also participated in the women’s team event, with Romero alongside Hilarion, Aitana Bibbo and Oriana Alvarado. They achieved victories against Ecuador and Peru, but a loss to Venezuela meant they advanced as the second-placed team in their zone. Their run ended in the round of 16 with a defeat against Chile.
