Arlo Neumiller: Fargo Dentist & Pilot – Obituary & Celebration of Life

Fargo, North Dakota – Arlo Dean Neumiller, a longtime dentist serving communities in North Dakota and Minnesota, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the HIA Heather’s House in Fargo. He was 86 years old. Neumiller’s life was marked by a dedication to both his profession and a diverse range of hobbies, leaving behind a legacy of service and cherished memories for his family and friends.

Born February 6, 1940, in Fargo, Neumiller’s journey took him from a childhood raised by his grandparents, Christ and Mathilda Neumiller, in Sykeston, North Dakota, to a fulfilling career in dentistry and a lifelong passion for aviation. He served in the Army from November 1958 to October 1960 before pursuing higher education at North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. He then attended Marquette Dental School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, ultimately establishing dental practices in both Cooperstown and Fargo.

Neumiller opened his practice in Cooperstown in 1969, and later expanded to Fargo, opening Agassiz Dental. He continued practicing in both locations until his retirement on March 29, 2013. Beyond his professional life, Neumiller was an avid outdoorsman and craftsman, enjoying activities such as golfing, gardening – particularly cultivating wildflowers – woodworking, flying, fishing, photography, and building model airplanes.

Early Life and Military Service

Raised in Sykeston, North Dakota, after the passing of his mother, Lydia Mise, Neumiller graduated from Sykeston school in 1958. He then enlisted in the Army, serving from November 1958 until October 1960. His commitment to service and education laid the foundation for his future career and passions. After his military service, he attended NDSU, setting the stage for his pursuit of dentistry.

A Career Dedicated to Dental Care

After earning his dental degree, Neumiller established a practice in Cooperstown, North Dakota, in 1969. He later expanded his reach by opening Agassiz Dental in Fargo, allowing him to serve a wider community. He balanced practices in both towns for many years, providing dental care to generations of patients. His dedication to the field spanned decades, culminating in his retirement in 2013.

Passions Beyond the Practice

Neumiller’s interests extended far beyond the dental office. He was a passionate pilot, co-owning a Piper Arrow airplane and frequently embarking on fishing trips to Canada with friends from Cooperstown. In recent years, he rekindled a childhood hobby, meticulously building over 20 model airplanes and enjoying flying remote-controlled aircraft. He as well purchased a cabin on Two Inlets Lake in Minnesota in 2006, sharing it with his daughter, Tanya Lunde, and her family, where he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with loved ones.

Those who knew Neumiller remember him for his witty humor and remarkable ability to offer insightful retorts. His family described him as a source of advice, love, and laughter.

Family and Legacy

Arlo Neumiller is survived by his son, Joel Neumiller (Penny) of Bismarck, North Dakota, and his daughter, Tanya Lunde (Ward Lunde) of Kindred, North Dakota. He is also remembered by five grandchildren – Alex, Ilsa, Elena, Sydney, and Colin – and two great-grandchildren, Runa and Gwyn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Mise.

A service and celebration of Arlo’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21st, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Evans Funeral Home in Carrington, North Dakota. A burial at the Carrington Cemetery and a gathering for both Joel and Tanya’s parents will be held in Carrington on Friday, June 19th. Evans Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
