Arne Fredly Buys More Bank Shares | Finansavisen

by Sophie Lin - Technology Editor

Monaco-based investor Arne Fredly is once again increasing his holdings in the Norwegian banking sector, recently acquiring a further 45,000 equity certificates in Jæren Sparebank. This move adds to a history of successful investments in Norwegian savings banks for Fredly, signaling continued confidence in the regional banking landscape.

The purchase, detailed in the shareholder registry, gives Fredly a 0.9% ownership stake in Jæren Sparebank. This investment comes as Fredly has been strategically adjusting his portfolio, with recent activity including both sales and purchases of positions in companies like Equinor, and collaborative ventures with Øystein Stray Spetalen, according to Bjellesauene.no. While his overall exposure to the banking sector has reportedly been reduced, this latest acquisition demonstrates a continued interest in specific opportunities within the industry.

Fredly’s Portfolio: A Shift in Focus

While known for his banking investments, Arne Fredly’s largest current holding is Kongsberg Automotive, a global supplier of components and systems to the automotive industry. He owns shares valued at approximately 200 million Norwegian kroner, representing around 12 percent of the company, as reported by Bjellesauene.no. Fredly acquired this stake from Teleios, a previous major shareholder, at a price of around 1.15 Norwegian kroner per share. He expressed optimism about the company’s potential for improved profitability at the time of the purchase.

However, Kongsberg Automotive’s recent financial performance has been mixed. Second-quarter 2025 revenues fell 8.1 percent year-over-year to 192.4 million euros, impacted by a weaker automotive market and currency fluctuations. The company reported an EBIT of -2.9 million euros, compared to a positive 6.4 million euros in the previous year. Despite ongoing restructuring efforts, including cost reductions and a reorganization, the outlook remains challenging due to lower demand from key customers.

Recent Investment Activity and Portfolio Adjustments

Fredly’s recent investment in Jæren Sparebank is part of a broader pattern of activity. In December 2024, he, along with Spetalen and Espen Westeren, invested in a mining company, according to Finansavisen. He also previously sold off all his shares in Pareto Bank to Sogelife Luxembourg, a company in which he holds a unit-linked policy, as reported by Finansavisen on Facebook.

Fredly recently participated in a 100 million Norwegian kroner investment in local companies Sparebanken Sør and Norse Atlantic Airways, alongside John Fredriksen, as detailed in Fvn.no. This indicates a continued appetite for investments in the Norwegian market, particularly within the financial and transportation sectors.

Looking Ahead

Arne Fredly’s investment strategy continues to evolve, demonstrating a willingness to adapt to changing market conditions and pursue new opportunities. His recent moves suggest a focus on both established companies with potential for turnaround, like Kongsberg Automotive, and strategic investments in regional banks and emerging sectors. The impact of these investments, and Fredly’s continued portfolio adjustments, will be closely watched by observers of the Norwegian investment landscape.
