A speech read to the letter, without excess of voice but with conviction, interspersed with numerous applause from the 2,700 activists who came to attend the handover this Wednesday at the Z énith, porte de la Villette in Paris; a few personal allusions and a strong tribute to her predecessor – “a sacred fellow” – to finish before the festive moment: for her first appearance as general secretary of the CFDT, Marylise Léon surfed on the dynamic that has carried the first trade union in France since the pension reform, despite its failure to obtain its withdrawal.

To her “dear friends and dear comrades”, the one to whom falls the heavy task of doing at least as well as Laurent Berger who remained at the helm for eleven years, began by saying her “pride” to lead this collective adventure. “Today, our first place opens a historic perspective”, she announced from the outset, when her predecessor, earlier in the day, had exalted a CFDT which “is not perfect, but in good shape”.
