One day before leaving for the training camp in Novi Grad, West League leaders Austria Salzburg suffered a bitter defeat at second division club Vienna on Friday.

The Violets took a 1-0 lead following a few minutes through Alexander Schwaighofer, but three goals within 20 minutes left Salzburg 1-3 behind at the break. “It’s a shame, we actually played well following the opening goal. Unfortunately, we conceded avoidable goals,” explains Austria coach Christian Schaider.

Four goals conceded in ten minutes

In the second half, Austria quickly conceded their fourth goal, but then held on well for a long time at the Hohe Warte. It was only in the last ten minutes that the second division team was able to gain an advantage once more and secured an 8-1 win with four goals. “Vienna starts the spring next week and is already further along. Nevertheless, we have seen that a different wind is blowing in the 2nd league. Above all, the duels are conducted differently and the game is played faster. We will have to get used to that “If we want to play up there next season,” says Schaider.
