Margarete Schramböck urged countries to respect international law when putting the gas pipeline into operation.

Austria will not abandon the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project at the wish of other countries. This was announced this Sunday by the Minister of Economy, Margarete Schramböck.

“I know that there are countries that want Austria to give up Nord Stream 2 completely. That is not going to happen on my part or on the part of the Foreign Minister, because we, as a state, have invested a lot through the OMV (Authority Austrian mineral oil),” Schramböck said in a interview with ORF.

The minister urged the countries to respect international law when starting up the gas pipeline, she also stressed that Austria has long-term gas supply contracts with Russia, “and even in the worst times of the Cold War, Russia supplied gas,” he added.
