Sawiris responded to Saud’s tweet, saying: “I know my interest, and there is no shame in inquiring, and whoever has no good in his family has no good in anyone, and the people of Nuba are among the best Egyptians. If they make a mistake, we know at least.”
The owner of the “Watan 69” account commented on a tweet in which he said: “I think the Egyptian brothers are too smart to believe you.. They know, know, and are sure that the judicial system in Saudi Arabia is firm and fair, and no one has any interference,” to which Sawiris replied, “We do not interfere, but we ask.”
CNN Arabic has reached out to the Saudi authorities for comment, with no response at the time of writing.
Human Rights Watch had claimed in a report published in March 2022: “Saudi authorities have unjustly detained 10 Egyptian Nubians for 20 months on arbitrary charges related to expression, association and terrorism.”
