Juan Ayuso surprisingly won the opening time trial from Tirreno – Adriatico. The Spaniard from the Emirates team pushed top Italian favorite Filippo Ganna (Ineos) into second place by one second following ten kilometers at the Lido di Camaiore. Jonathan Milan (ITA/Lidl-Trek) took third place, twelve seconds behind Ayuso.
Patrick Gamper (Bora) was 106th (+1:00), Michael Gogl (Alpecin) 171st (1:50). The second stage leads over 199 predominantly flat kilometers from Camaiore to Follonica. The long-distance journey ends on Sunday in San Benedetto del Tronto.
