The idea of ”let’s take a selfie, say ‘cheese'” did not seem to be what Bad Bunny wanted the most.
The Puerto Rican singer starred in a controversial scene while walking through a yacht marina surrounded by fans, with whom he initially reade he looked in good spirits.
That changed when a fan wanted to take a picture with him and for this she approached and stretched out her arm with her phone in hand. At first Bad Bunny was still smiling, but then her response to the selfie attempt was to take her phone away and throw it into the water.
The reaction generated disbelief from the fan, while a woman behind exclaimed: “Wow! Really?”
The event occurred on the outskirts of the city of La Romana, in eastern Dominican Republicreported the local media Listín Diario, and the video of the incident published on social networks went viral on Monday, while criticism of the musician’s attitude multiplied.
A controversial answer
The 28-year-old Puerto Rican ragpicker born as Benito Martínez responded through his Twitter account without apologizing for what he did.
“The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect. Those who come to put a fucking phone in my face I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect and so on. I’ll deal with it myself,” he wrote.
Users of the social network responded to that tweet with criticism of the singer.
“How arrogant. The gesture was arrogant and inconsiderate. It is easier for an artist to put himself in the shoes of an excited fan than the other way around,” wrote Colombian journalist Steven Arce.
“Not throwing the phone at him, brother! NO,” actor Mauricio Henao told him.
“When one is doing well, life tests the ego and pride. Justifying yourself like this, without empathy and review, is failing your exam,” said businesswoman Verónica Ruiz del Vizo.
Bad Bunny was the most listened to artist in the world on Spotify in 2022 for the third consecutive year. It was in that year, moreover, that he became the first non-English-speaking singer to win the MTV VMA award for artist of the year and that he swept the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
