Bahrain Attack: Iranian Drones Target Civilian Areas – March 6, 2026

by Omar El Sayed - World Editor

Iranian forces launched seven attack drones targeting civilian residential neighborhoods in Bahrain late Thursday, according to a statement released by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on Friday. The attack represents a further escalation in regional hostilities and raises concerns about the potential for wider conflict.

CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper revealed the details of the drone attack, stating it targeted areas inhabited by civilians. This incident follows a series of retaliatory strikes between Iran and the United States, beginning on February 28th with Iranian missile and drone strikes against the headquarters of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain, as well as other locations on the island nation. Videos circulating at the time showed projectiles striking near the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters.

The February 28th attacks prompted a swift response from the United States, which initiated Operation Epic Fury, a sustained military operation against Iranian military infrastructure. CENTCOM announced on Tuesday that U.S. Forces had destroyed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) command and control centers, air defense systems, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields across Iran. The operation involved multiple squadrons of F/A-18 fighter jets conducting round-the-clock missions, alongside strikes from U.S. B-1 bombers aimed at degrading Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities.

The strikes on Bahrain in late February were seen by some analysts as a deliberate targeting of a high-profile location with historically limited air defenses. Reports suggest that a relatively slow-moving Iranian Shahed drone was able to breach Bahrain’s defenses, highlighting potential vulnerabilities. While the U.S. Has reportedly deployed additional air defense systems to the region, including THAAD and Patriot systems, their limited numbers raise questions about the ability to adequately protect all U.S. Military bases and interests in the Middle East.

Adm. Cooper has stated that Iran has attacked 12 countries, indicating a broad pattern of Iranian aggression. The recent attacks on Bahrain, coupled with the U.S. Response, underscore the escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. The U.S. Navy has deployed approximately a dozen Arleigh Burke-class Destroyers to the Gulf and the eastern Mediterranean, further bolstering air defense capabilities in the region.

As of Friday, March 6th, CENTCOM has not released further details regarding potential casualties or damage resulting from the latest drone attack in Bahrain. No statement has been issued by Bahraini officials regarding the incident or any potential response.
