Gerard Pique marked an era at FC Barcelona, wearing the Blaugrana shirt since 2008. His contract is valid until 2024, but an early end no longer seems impossible. Like the Spanish Sport reported, the Catalans hope Pique will retire earlier.
The Spanish central defender is only a backup player and hardly gets a chance following the transfers of Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde. The club allegedly commented to the newspaper that Pique was no longer valuable from a sporting point of view and would cause economic damage. Pique is one of the top earners for the Catalans.
The 2010 World Champion has often emphasized in the past that he is considering retiring when he is no longer needed. Pique has only been in the starting XI once this season.
