Belgian Artist Hilaire Smet Raises Awareness with Unusual Traffic Installation in Temse

It is Hilaire Smet, a Belgian artist, Hilaire Smet, who is at the origin of this unusual device, to say the least. Indeed, motorists passing through the intersection formed by rue Houtbriel and rue Rupelmonde, in Temse, can now see the legs of a worker stuck in a hedge, as well as a broken bicycle on the ground.

The artist’s goal? Encourage motorists to slow down and raise awareness of the dangers of the road, since this intersection is known to be a dangerous place due to a lack of visibility.

The artist has already received numerous compliments from locals and passers-by, with some even stopping to take photos of the work. “It’s particularly effective,” says Hilaire, interviewed by our colleagues at HLN. The artist plans to leave this installation up and is even considering creating other similar artistic speed bumps in the future.
