Belgians abroad: Theate and Doku succumb to OM in the Coupe de France, Kompany wins on the wire

Stade Rennais lost 1-0 in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, Friday evening, on the ground of Olympique de Marseille.

It was the French international Matteo Guendouzi who offered victory to OM at the Vélodrome, with a flat foot strike on a deflected cross from Jordan Veretout (59th).

Holder, Arthur Theate was aligned in the Rennes defensive trio and played the entire game. He was joined on the pitch by another Diable Rouge, Jérémy Doku, in the 70th minute. The former Anderlechtois was responsible for provoking the Marseille defense from his left flank but Stade Rennais failed to snatch the equalizer.

Marseille is the first club to qualify for the knockout stages of the Coupe de France.

The Belgian continues his crazy season with Burnley. Led 0-1 once morest West BromWich, Vincent Kompany’s troops managed to win 2-1.
