Belgium placed on storm yellow alert: IRM reactivates 1722 for risk of storm or flood

The 1722 call number for non-emergency firefighter interventions was activated on Tuesday evening by the FPS Interior, in response to a bad weather warning issued by the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM). After the record heat of Monday and Tuesday, the IRM predicts heavy showers, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms.

The temperatures will be milder, with maximums between 24°C at sea and 29°C, far from the 38.1°C measured in Uccle on Tuesday.

The purpose of the 1722 is to prevent emergency numbers from being overwhelmed with calls for interventions which can however wait. In the event of storm damage or water damage for which the assistance of the fire brigade is required, this number should therefore be dialed. If a life is in danger, call 112.
