Belgium is releasing an additional two million euros for the United Nations humanitarian fund active in the Palestinian territories, announced Monday the Minister of Development Cooperation, Caroline Gennez, in Casablanca (Morocco) where she is on an official visit.

Minister Vooruit reiterated her call to allow humanitarian aid to pass to the population stranded in the Gaza Strip, and pleaded for the opening of the crossing point with Egypt.

Water, food and fuel supplies are running out in Gaza as a massive population movement is underway from the north to the south of the Palestinian enclave, according to United Nations aid workers. Hospitals have only 24 hours of fuel left to run their emergency generators, the United Nations Office of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) said on Monday. A failure of generators would put thousands of patients “in immediate danger“, according to the organization’s latest report. The latter estimates the needs for the next three months in Gaza and the region at $294 million.
