Belgium among the countries most stingy with arms sent to Ukraine: “We don’t want to give up F-16s but we don’t say no to Russian money”

But on Friday, the federal government instructed Defense to carry out a study on this matter, in order to examine whether there is not a possibility of still sending Belgian F-16s to Ukraine. And this at the request of the MR and Hadja Lahbib. “As Minister of Foreign Affairs, I have a duty to see the big picture and go beyond everyone’s interests. Conducting this study is a question of transparency and logic. You have to have the data in hand to make the right decision,” she told La Libre this Saturday. According to her, “if F-16s are available and can be made available without weakening the defense of NATO’s eastern flank, we will have to make an informed political decision”.

The liberal stressed that it was “a moral duty” to help kyiv militarily, for as long as it takes. “Do we have a choice? Where will Russia stop if we let it win?” asked Hadja Lahbib, stressing that Ukraine is “a country which is at the gates of the European Union, which has a democratic aspiration, which is carrying out reforms while bombs explode every day and cause victims.”
