This decision is referred to the Council of State for opinion, announces the office of Flemish Minister of Internal Affairs Gwendolyn Rutten (Open Vld).

The province of Antwerp wanted to integrate the new merged municipality, but this will not be the case. Currently, Beveren and Kruibeke belong to East Flanders, while Zwijndrecht is part of the province of Antwerp.
