Benzema retires from international football Dubai Sports

France’s Ballon d’Or striker Karim Benzema announced his retirement from international football one day following France lost the World Cup final to Argentina on penalties in Qatar.

The Real Madrid star wrote on social media, “I made an effort and made mistakes until I reached where I am today. I am proud of that. I wrote my story and our story (with the national team) is over.”

Benzema, 35, missed his country’s national team in the Qatar finals due to injury, and there were reports of his disagreement with coach Didier Deschamps for not including him in the final despite his recovery.
