A 13-year-old girl was hit by a tram in Berlin-Johannisthal on Friday and fatally injured.

As the police announced on Saturday, the child crossed the Sterndamm at around 12.45 p.m. coming from the direction of Ellernweg and then ran over the green central strip on which the tram tracks ran. The student was hit by a line 60 train. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. The tram driver had initiated an emergency stop and suffered a shock, she was treated and cared for on site. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

The Sterndamm was closed between Ellernweg and Königsheideweg in both directions until 5:20 p.m.
