It all started on a small island in the Caribbean: At a meeting of heads of government, UN staff and representatives of civil society, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley presented her comprehensive plans for the future of international development banks. The reform is intended to enable countries in the Global South to invest more money in climate finance as well as in other areas such as education and health. Mottley sought allies for her “Bridgetown Agenda”, named following the island’s capital.
