Bloomberg: The European Commission has already decided on the status of the EU candidate for Ukraine

The European Commission decided to recommend granting Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the European Union. On June 17, this will be officially announced, Bloomberg writes, citing sources.

It is reported that the recommendation will be provided “on conditions related to the rule of law and the fight once morest corruption.”

Then the decision to grant the status will have to be approved unanimously by 27 EU member states. After that, Ukraine’s application will be considered. The country will have to adjust to EU rules and standards before it is accepted. European politicians, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have pointed out that this might take years and decades.

Recall that on Saturday the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, came to visit Kyiv. She called on the country’s authorities to make more efforts to reform on the way to the EU.
