A mistake in the form of a possible police blunder took place in Liège: a 16-year-old teenager was targeted by the police who were in reality pursuing fleeing car thieves.

During their chase, the police came across a park where young athletes were practicing an endurance exercise. These were footballers from the Jeunesse sportive de Pierreuse. The agents mistook them for the escapees. The president of the football club Samir El Faki says: “The police started running following them, and took out their weapons”he explains. “The police put the first young person to the ground and threatened the other young people with a gun and threatened them. The young person on the ground was violently brutalized, receiving blows to the face…”, he continues. It was one of the players present at training who informed the police that they had the wrong target. “The police realized their mistake and left, leaving the young man like that”s’insurge Samir El Faki. “The young people saw a weapon, they panicked!”

According to our colleagues from La Derniere Heure, the events occurred this Tuesday around 6 p.m. The young man, who lost consciousness instantly, was taken to hospital.
