BMW has joined forces with Porsche and Cadillac in utilizing the LMDh ‘evo joker’ upgrade, a strategic tool designed to boost performance. The German automaker has focused its single joker upgrade on enhancing the braking system of their M Hybrid V8.
“We will see after the race,” said Andreas Roos, BMW’s head of motorsport. “For sure,we did our progress and worked on the topics, but at the end the final check you get in race conditions.”
While confirming the upgrade,Roos remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the implemented changes. BMW initially unveiled these brake enhancements and additional drivability modifications during a November test at Daytona. at the time, it was uncertain if these changes would necessitate the use of a joker upgrade.
Further testing of these brake upgrades took place in Bahrain following a World Endurance Championship test conducted by Team WRT. Roos expressed measured optimism about the impact of these changes, noting that the upcoming Rolex 24 at Daytona will provide a crucial real-world test.
BMW’s performance at last weekend’s Roar Before the Rolex 24 was undeniably strong. Dries vanthoor set the quickest overall time in the No.24 car, leaving the team with a positive outlook.
“Definitely, when you just look on the numbers and the results we can be super happy with the Roar,” said Roos. “But we also know that at the end everybody is concentrating on his [own] program and then you don’t know who ran which weight and which setup.”
