Bonnier News: Revenue & Subscriptions Surge in 2025 (+29% EBITA)

by Omar El Sayed - World Editor

Bonnier News reported a 29% year-over-year increase in EBITA to SEK 1.08 billion (€101 million) for 2025, alongside revenue of SEK 10.9 billion (€1.02 billion), a 3% increase from the previous year. The Swedish media group, which publishes titles including Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, and Dagens Industri, highlighted the continued growth of its digital subscriptions as a key driver of the positive results.

The company’s revenue has more than doubled since 2016, when it stood at SEK 4.7 billion (€418 million), a period coinciding with Marcus Eriksson’s tenure as CEO. Eriksson attributed the growth to a “massive, systematic transformation strategy” implemented over the past decade.

Digital subscriptions increased by 14% year-over-year in 2025. Bonnier News’s bundled subscription package, +Allt, reached nearly 500,000 digital subscribers by the end of the year, contributing to both higher subscription volumes and increased average prices. The total subscriber base for +Allt, including print subscribers, exceeds 1.1 million.

“The reader revenue has grown steadily – the share of total revenue has increased from around 57% to 62% in the last three years, while at the same time that our total revenue has grown considerably,” Eriksson stated in a company announcement. Approximately half of the company’s reader revenue now comes from purely digital sources, with the remainder derived from a combination of single-copy sales, print subscriptions, and print/digital bundles.

Bonnier News’s strategy includes both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. In late 2025, the company acquired Zetland, a Danish membership-based news organization with an audio-focused model. Bonnier too established a cross-ownership and partnership with Erna Media and integrated the digital news service Readly into its operations. While acknowledging Zetland’s relatively small size within the larger group, Eriksson emphasized its “strong and innovative journalistic product” and potential for future development.

Beyond reader revenue and advertising, Bonnier News generates approximately 16% of its revenue from other sources. This includes around 6% from logistics, printing, and distribution; 5% from events, networking, education, and industry data; 3% from other revenue streams; and 2% from media subsidies.

Looking ahead, Eriksson expressed optimism for continued growth in 2026. “I believe 2026 will be an even stronger year for us. Our readership, engagement and subscription business continues to grow. We also hope for a bit stronger advertising market based on improved macro,” he said. The company’s business area, Bonnier News Local, now encompasses around 40 local newspapers across Sweden, ranging from publications in the south to those in the north.

Bonnier News also includes the former Bonnier Magazines & Brands, now integrated into the Expressen business area. Bonnier News Business comprises Dagens Industri and approximately 20 trade publications in Sweden, as well as business newspapers in Denmark, Poland, and Slovenia, alongside companies focused on education and professional services. Bonnier Publications, with magazine operations primarily in Denmark, operates as a separate business area within Bonnier News since 2022. The Bonnier News Logistics & Production business area handles distribution and printing through brands like Bold, Bonway, and Morgonexpressen.
