Book trade in distress: demand for a reduction in sales tax – literature

2024-03-04 10:48:01

Vienna – More and more local bookstores are closing. From 2012 to 2023 alone, the number of business licenses for the book trade fell by almost 30 percent, according to a release from the Book and Media Industry Association of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ) on Monday. In an open letter to Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP), the industry is now calling for a significant reduction in VAT on books “to save the domestic book trade”.
