BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) —

A woman has been charged with animal cruelty following a witness reported that she was beating and dragging her dog down the road Monday in West Virginia, court records said.

Deputies responded to the call around 6:30 p.m. and found Miranda Hutton, 28, of Alkol dragging a dog along Doddson Fork in the Morrisvale area with a piece of string tied around its neck, according to a criminal complaint from the Boone County Magistrate’s Court. The witness said the dog was limping, whimpering and hardly able to walk.

Hutton is also accused of striking the small dog with her fist.

The deputy said Hutton appeared to be intoxicated and admitted to using drugs and had recently been kicked out of a nearby house, taking her frustrations out on the dog.

The canine was collected by Animal Control and admitted to a local veterinarian clinic, the complaint said.

Hutton is currently being detained at Southwestern Regional Jail on a $40,000 bond.
