3 Israeli soldiers and an Egyptian security officer were killed following a rare shooting incident. It happened Saturday on the Israeli side of the border.
The Egyptian armed forces said that one of their officers was pursuing a drug smuggler when they “breached the security barrier and exchanged fire.”
The IDF said that their soldiers were killed in that exchange of fire and that the gunman was also killed, identifying him as an Egyptian policeman. The army also said that they had intercepted a smuggling operation hours before the shooting.
Both sides are now investigating the circumstances of the attack.
