Botafogo Fires Davide Ancelotti, Son of Carlo Ancelotti, After Six‑Month Tenure

Breaking: Botafogo sacks Davide Ancelotti after brief tenure

RIO DE JANEIRO – Botafogo has fired Davide Ancelotti, the 36-year-old son of Brazil’s national team coach Carlo Ancelotti, just five months into his first full-time coaching job.

The Rio de Janeiro club announced the decision after meetings held on Wednesday, capping a campaign in which Botafogo failed to defend its Libertadores and domestic league titles. The team finished sixth in the Brasileirão, 16 points behind champions Flamengo, and was eliminated by Liga de Quito in the Libertadores round of 16.

Botafogo did not name a successor in its statement.

Ancelotti arrived at Botafogo following owner John Textor’s dismissal of Renato Paiva after the team’s Club World Cup last-16 exit in July.

The Italian strategist has spent more than a decade collaborating with his father at clubs including Bayern Munich, napoli, Everton and Real Madrid, and he remained part of Carlo ancelotti’s staff in Brazil.
