The West Indian archipelago of Guadeloupe will be confined “until further notice” following the “purple” alert was triggered on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. local (3:30 p.m. in Brussels). Guadeloupe is under threat from Hurricane Tammy, announced the regional prefect, Xavier Lefort, to the press.
The island of La Désirade, located to the east of Grande-Terre, is “right in the heart” of Tammy’s trajectory. The “purple” vigilance level indicates an imminent cyclone threat, and is accompanied by a ban on going out for the approximately 380,000 inhabitants of Guadeloupe.
