The lifeless body of Tackele “Theo” Hiddema, an 80-year-old man from Tielt-Winge, was found on Thursday followingnoon in the Albert Canal in Heusden-Zolder, Limburg. The information was reported by several media and confirmed on Friday by the Louvain public prosecutor’s office. The forty-year-old was suspected of having murdered his wife on April 17, 2023 and had been missing since last weekend.
The wife, suffering from dementia, was found dead at their home on April 17. The autopsy revealed that she died of strangulation. “Theo” was then placed under arrest warrant by the investigating judge but denied having murdered his wife.
Released on conditions in September, the man disappeared last weekend. The federal police issued a search notice while the Louvain public prosecutor’s office, the Missing Persons Unit and the local police launched a search operation.
