Breaking News: Nivelles and Schaerbeek Schools Evacuated due to Bomb Threats

This Thursday morning, many of you reported to us regarding the movement and “a significant police deployment” at the Sainte-Gertrude college in Nivelles. In fact, the establishment was targeted by a bomb alert. The students were evacuated to the esplanade opposite the courthouse, supervised by the police.

Around 11 a.m. Pierre Huart, the mayor of the commune, confirmed the event and told us that he was in the process of “manage the crisis” without having “more information to communicate” at present. Sainte-Gertrude college in Nivelles will be closed for the whole day. The management of the Nivelles school located in the city center received an electronic message on Thursday morning announcing the placement of a bomb inside the premises.

At the same time, the Roi Baudoin general college in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek was also evacuated following a bomb threat received by the management, confirmed the police in the Brussels North zone. “Around 8:30 a.m., the school management was alerted of a bomb threat. The establishment, located at 62 avenue Félix Marchal, in Schaerbeek, was immediately evacuated”indicated the spokesperson for the police zone concerned.

Primary and secondary students were dismissed for the day, and parents were notified.
