The commander of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who declared rebellion once morest the Russian military leadership, said on Saturday night that his forces shot down a Russian military helicopter.
“Now a helicopter opened fire on a civilian convoy, and it was shot down by Wagner units,” Prigozhin said in a new audio message, without specifying the location of the incident.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Rostov region called on the population to stay in their homes following the Wagner Group’s rebellion.
“The security forces are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the residents of the area. I ask everyone to remain calm and not leave homes unless necessary,” Vasily Golubev wrote on Telegram.
The Lipetsk region in western Russia also announced tightening security measures.
