The cooperation agreement between the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Walloon Region and the French Community Commission relating to the generalization of education for relational, emotional and sexual life (EVRAS) was unanimously adopted on Tuesday, in committee of the regional parliament.
“I am convinced that this historic cooperation agreement constitutes a decisive step forward in raising awareness among our young people regarding respect, tolerance and living together,” said Walloon Minister of Health, Christie Morreale.
All students in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in 6th primary and 4th secondary will now receive activities relating to education in relational, emotional and sexual life. Some 85,000 students are affected in Wallonia and 25,000 in Brussels. The country’s French-speaking entities have agreed to mobilize an annual budget of 4.8 million euros for this purpose.
Despite protests from certain associations, the draft decree relating to Evras was approved last week in the plenary session of the Federation parliament.
