BRICS Future Skills Challenge: Boosting Skills and Innovation in South Africa and Beyond

JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — Exchanging skills with other BRICS nations will help South Africa improve its critical skills and benchmark itself once morest other countries, South Africa’s minister said on Friday. African Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande.

“We look forward to sharing best practices with our BRICS counterparts and being part of the journey to reshape and align education outcomes in our institutions with the demands required by the economy,” Mr. Nzimande said commenting the BRICS Future Skills Challenge, a competition scheduled to take place in Johannesburg from September 12 to 15 with hundreds of competitors from all BRICS countries.

“We are confident that this initiative will serve as a conduit for innovative entrepreneurs and highly skilled workforce for industries, not only in South Africa and the continent, but also across all BRICS countries and beyond ” said Mr. Nzimande.

The minister said he wanted to acquire the skills needed to drive the growth of new industries and fuel the digitalization of the South African economy.

Young people aged 18-35 from BRICS countries will participate in the skills challenge in the areas of aircraft maintenance, agricultural Internet of Things, construction information modeling, cybersecurity, science of data and the digital twin.

They will be tested in the areas of drone technologies, internet marketing, manufacturing robotics, renewable energy and robotic process automation, according to the BRICS Business Council of South Africa, organizer of the event. END
