Brilliant inspiration, almost perfect gesture, Wesley Hoedt comes close to an unforgettable goal

The second day of the Champions Play-offs gave birth to two virgin shares. Not the slightest goal to put in their mouths and it’s not for lack of opportunities. Wesley Hoedt also came very close to scoring a superb goal at the end of the first half between Anderlecht and FC Bruges.

Following a “ball on the ground“, the Sporting defender surprises everyone by trying his luck directly from midfield. Simon Mignoleta little advanced, quickly replaces himself and manages to prevent the ball from entering.

The inspiration of the Dutchman is brilliant, the realization almost perfect. He just forgot one point of the rules: in this kind of action itwo players must touch the ball in order to score. Clearly, if Hoedt had succeeded … the goal would not have been validated. And to avoid any unnecessary risk, Mignolet would therefore have done better to let the ball slip into the back of his net.
