Firefighters were called on Thursday midday following a person fell into the Brussels canal. When they arrived, three people were in the water, confirmed the fire department spokesperson. The life prognosis of the first individual is in jeopardy, while the two others, in hypothermia, were transported to hospital.

Brussels Siamu intervened shortly following midday at the Chaussée de Ninove bridge, in Molenbeek, to try to save a person who had fallen into the water. In the meantime, two other individuals had dived to try to help him and were still in the canal.

“Our divers pulled everyone out of the water. The first person was unconscious and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was immediately initiated,” the spokesperson said. “His vital prognosis is in jeopardy. The other two people were also taken to hospital,” he added.

The circumstances of the fall of the first individual are still to be determined.
