The Brussels firefighters intervened Thursday followingnoon in Forest for a kitchen fire in a ten-storey apartment building on Avenue du Domaine. A family of seven was taken to hospital.
The fire broke out in the kitchen of a fourth-floor apartment. When the firefighters arrived, the majority of the residents of the building had already been able to evacuate the premises. “Smoke detectors were installed in the building and when we arrived the evacuation was almost complete”, explained the spokesman for the Brussels firefighters Walter Derieuw.
The firefighters deployed a ladder to fight the flames via the balcony of the apartment.
The mother of the family occupying the premises had previously tried to extinguish the flames and had then inhaled smoke. “For safety, the mother and her children were taken to the hospital,” said the firefighters.
