A motorist who fled a police check on Sunday in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and who then adopted extremely dangerous driving is actively wanted, the Brussels prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.

“A car fled from a police checkpoint located near Chaussée de Ninove and Boulevard Louis Mettewie in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Sunday around 5 p.m.,” explained the prosecution. “The driver of the car took huge risks in traffic and drove at excessive speed towards the E40 motorway towards the coast. The Brussels-West police zone then decided to stop the pursuit on the highway due to the excessive speed and the high risk of endangering other drivers.”

A little later, the suspect hit a guardrail on the E40, near Erembodegem. “The suspect then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. At present, he is still on the run,” declared the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.

The judicial authority specified that a quantity of 104 grams of cannabis was found in the vehicle.
