A person seriously injured following the tourist bus accident that occurred on Sunday followingnoon in Brussels is still in danger of death, the Brussels prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday. A second person is still in hospital, but his life is no longer in danger. The exact cause of the accident remains to be determined.

The accident occurred on Sunday around 1:00 p.m. on the Chaussée de Vilvoorde, near the Van Praet bridge. The tourist bus veered from its lane for a reason still unknown, before colliding with a tree. Of the 33 passengers, 22 were injured and taken to hospital. Most of the victims suffered minor injuries, but three of them were in more critical condition.

“One of them is currently in intensive care, in danger of death,” explained the spokesperson for the Brussels public prosecutor’s office, Yasmina Vanoverschelde. “The second seriously injured person is still in hospital, but his life is no longer in danger. The third was able to return home.”

“The exact circumstances of the facts are still unknown,” continued the spokesperson. “An expert was appointed by the prosecution and went to the scene of the accident to determine the cause. According to on-site tests, the bus driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. »
