Last week, Flanders issued the permit to build the long-awaited “luchthaventram”, namely the tram to connect the capital to Zaventem airport. The editorial staff was able to obtain visuals of this future transport line.

This is, technically, the extension of line 62, which currently stops at Bordet. Several stops are planned: Hermes, Grensstraat, Culligan and Technics.

New stage for the tram linking Brussels to Zaventem airport: the permit submitted and entry into service planned for 2028

The line should – and this is in particular its reason for existence – provide better service to the industrial zone between NATO and the Brussels airport. Area rich in businesses and currently poorly served by public transport. The connection between Brussels North station and Zaventem via Meiser should then, via this tram, be provided in around 30 minutes.

Flanders hopes to launch work at the end of 2025 for commissioning by 2028.
