Budget approved in the National Council with votes from the coalition – substantive politics

Vienna – The National Council approved the budget for 2024 and the financial framework on Thursday following a three-day debate. The draft budget from Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) envisages a deficit of 2.7 percent of gross domestic product for next year. There was also harsh criticism from the opposition on the final day of the debate – especially regarding the continued high level of debt at 76.4 percent. Consequently, approval only came from the coalition.
