The Swiss colony of Borussia Dortmund might decrease further. After the departures of goalkeepers Marwin Hitz and Roman Bürki, defender Manuel Akanji also seems to be leaving.
“Manuel has a contract until 2023, but he doesn’t want to extend it“, explained sporting director Sebastian Kehl to “Funke Medien”. According to various media, Akanji (26) has been in contact for several weeks with Manchester United and Juventus.
Due to the Swiss international defender’s contract situation, BVB would only be able to get a transfer fee if Akanji leaves this summer. On the other hand, competition in central defense will be reinforced next season with the arrival of German internationals Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck.
