On the morning of February 3, Mr. Tran Van Loi – Deputy Director of An Giang Central General Hospital informed that the hospital received emergency treatment for Ms. LTM (born 1965, living in My Phuoc ward, Long Xuyen city, An Giang province). ) and his daughter HTL (born 1989, living in My Quy ward, Long Xuyen city) were poisoned by CO gas, due to burning coal for heating in a cold room.

According to initial information, pregnant woman L, her two daughters (2 years old and 8 days old) and Mrs. M (L’s biological mother) slept in a closed room with coal burning for heating on the evening of February 1. At 1:00 p.m. on February 2, the family did not open the door. Neighbors came to see that three people were in critical condition and the 2-year-old girl had died.
Pregnant woman L and her mother are currently undergoing emergency treatment at An Giang Central General Hospital. Currently, the two patients are on high-dose oxygen ventilators, combined with supportive treatment, and are showing signs of recovery. Ms. L’s newborn baby is being treated at An Giang Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital.
According to the Deputy Director of An Giang Central General Hospital, heating or cooking in a closed space will gradually consume oxygen. Combustion reactions in low oxygen conditions will form more and more CO gas. These two simultaneous effects pose a risk for people heating in closed rooms to quickly fall into a coma and die.
